Maidstone Horticultural Society members welcome you to gardening with us in 2019
We are a friendly Society with around 100 enthusiastic members and welcome everyone whether they are new to gardening or have many years of experience.
If you are starting gardening and wish to learn, we have plenty of people to help you. As a member of Maidstone Horticultural Society you can enjoy a discount of 10% all year with a local retail Nursery (see below).
Why not come along to one of our Talks or Shows just for a visit?
Our aim is to enjoy all aspects of gardening and we organise a full programme of activities to choose from throughout the year:-
- 6 Talks – on gardening subjects by visiting speakers – during Spring and Autumn evening meetings
- 2 Shows in 2019, SPRING AND LATE SUMMER, featuring the main flowers and vegetables in season plus cookery, crafts and floral art
- 3 Coach Outings – to well-known interesting gardens, some with houses – full day
- A Summer Garden Party – an enjoyable social occasion in a member’s garden. Delicious tea, plant and book sales, raffle and games

THERE IS A VACANCY IN MAIDSTONE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY FOR A NEW SHOW SECRETARY. IF YOU THINK YOU, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW, WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS IMPORTANT JOB, PLEASE READ ON.
We hold two shows each year – one in Spring and one in late Summer.
Both shows have classes for Flowers, Cookery, Crafts and Floral Art – also classes for Vegetables and Fruit in the Late Summer Show. Please look at the SHOWS PAGE on this website – there you will find a link to the current Show Schedules.
This post would suit some-one who likes organising equipment and people and could also work as a job share. Basic computer skills would be desirable but are not essential. About half of the work can be done well in advance of the show days.
The work includes organising three specialist Judges for each show, organising the equipment and documents which are needed, recording the entries from exhibitors for the classes, recording the results and organising the engraving of winners’ names on our trophies.
Our present Show Secretary is retiring from this aspect of MHS work after many years and will be pleased to show you more of what is required and will give full support during the year. Ideally, you could shadow her during our forthcoming show on 17 August and meet our Committee members who work well as a team on the show day to run the show.
This is an honorary post and will begin in January 2020.
Please contact our Chairman on 01622 753367 to discuss the possibilities further.
